Sensei is a solution that redefines retail by removing all friction from stores and turning them autonomous and checkout-free.

Through an integrated system of cameras and Artificial Intelligence algorithms, Sensei enables a new era of autonomous stores able to capture in-store product data and shoppers’ activities.

Our business model is an Enterprise software B2B based on a SaaS subscription with Retailers paying per store that runs our service. This subscription includes 3 distinct services: (i) seamless check-out API, (ii) Customer Insights dashboards, and (iii) Real-time inventory data.

The seamless check-out API allows Retailers to provide a better customer experience by freeing up a significant amount of time from shoppers who don’t need to wait in line to pay. Both customer insights and real-time inventory data represent an unparalleled opportunity for Retailers to operate more efficiently, therefore achieving higher levels of operational efficiency.

Sensei’s unique value proposition can be summarized around 4 main axes: Privacy, Flexibility, Scalability and Execution.

  1. Privacy: Sensei is the only player proactively addressing data privacy concerns by pursuing the highest standard of privacy and security certifications available in the market.
  2. Flexibility: Sensei solution uses off shelf overhead cameras that can be installed overnight in a few hours.
  3. Scalability: We are able to extend our deployment scope to various retail formats with no additional development effort or risk of over-fitting a particular retail vertical.
  4. Execution: Strong execution capacity with barely any dilution of capital; (i) we are the only player in Europe, and (ii) we have closed partnerships with two major Retailers.

When looking at Retail business reality today, it is possible to evaluate these opportunities in a new perspective. As consumer expectations rise, providing differentiated experiences while keeping costs down becomes imperative in an industry that is structurally characterized by low margins – this being exactly the intersection at which Sensei provides value.

We are first-movers in Europe in a new billion euros market that is poised for transformation. Sensei clients are large Food Retailers, and it operates in a new market segment where there is no dominant technology or player.

The company was incorporated in late 2017 and is invested by two of Europe’s biggest retail groups, German METRO AG and Portuguese SONAE among other venture investors. Techstars Alumni from the retail class of Berlin 2017, Sensei was considered by WIRED UK one of the hottest startups in Europe and won the prize of “Highest Impact Startup of 2018” by APBA and the 2nd place in London Retail Week Launchpad March 2019
