After a long evaluation process, 36 Big Data startups and SMEs have been selected to be part of the third and final round of incubation of the EDI. The winning teams were selected from a pool of 208 applicants and work in a variety of sectors. What’s next?

After two months receiving applications from hundreds of startups all over Europe and beyond (H2020 associated countries are also eligible to be part of the programme), EDI’s last open call closed on the 17th of June, at 17h00 CEST. As many as 494 companies had expressed their interest in the programme, with 208 of them submitting an application.

The evaluation process was not easy, with the evaluators facing many brilliant Big Data solutions to choose from. 36 were selected to join the programme on autumn, when they will start working on their solutions together with EDI’s data providers or external data sets, depending on the track they chosen during the application process.

You can read about how many startups applied to this third round of EDI in our last blog, including where most applicants came from, and which tracks they applied to.

So what’s next?

Over the next 8-months, the startups will embark on a supportive acceleration journey, with 1:1 help from their mentor and with direction from their data provider, as they accelerate a solution to their chosen big data challenge.

The first ‘Explore’ phase will begin in autumn 2020, with the kick-off being adjusted to take place online, given the flight restrictions that are still expected to be in place at the time. At this event, the selected startups will meet their mentors, the EDI team and their data providers. During this first stage, the startups will receive access to a free Cloud environment for scalable data processing, mentoring, free business support and up to €5k equity free.
